Be Black, Buy Black, Think Black, and always Respect The Queen!!!

I was talking with a close friend of mine the other day, and she said to me “Dynasty, girl you too black for me…” I laughed and I replied, “you can never be too black.” That is definitely a burden, and honor that I will gladly take on.

So, in regards to that latter, here I am with another “Be Black, Buy Black, Think Black, this time featuring Ms. Terra J, creator of Respect The Queen, LLC.

Check out our interview below:

Dynasty– “Tell the world your name.”

Terra J (Respect The Queen)“Terra J.”

Dynasty- “What is the name of your company?”

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “Respect the Queen.”

Dynasty- “Tell me about your brand and what it represents.”

Terra J (Respect The Queen): As women we are told we must walk, talk and dress a certain way to be considered a lady. My vision is for Queens to see themselves living outside of the box main stream society has placed them in. Societies rules DO NOT apply at “Respect the Queen.” We are Sexy! We are Classy! We are Educated! We are Bold! We are Queen!”

“Respect the Queen’s mission is to provide outstanding clothing designs and accessories that empower women while making a unique, trend setting fashion statement. It is our mission to become a well known recognized and respected leader in the fashion industry as well as the community we serve.”
“Customer Centric- Our customers are our number one priority. Everything begins and ends with our customers.
Accountability- We are accountable to each other, our customer’s, our community, our families and our stakeholder’s
Integrity- We conduct ourselves in a professional manner at all times in all circumstances.
Honesty- We are honest and forthright with customer’s, vendor’s, stakeholder’s, our families and the community we serve.
Quality- We take pride in everything we create and participate in.
Development- We foster an environment that allows for both personal and professional development.”
“A Queen does not live in fear of the future because of her past. Instead, she understands that her life experience are merely lessons, meant to bring her closer to self knowledge and unconditional self love.”

Dynasty- “When did you open your business?”

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “December of 2013.”

Dynasty- “What’s the inspiration for the name of your brand/company? “

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “I was born into chaos!  I struggled all of my life to maintain my Queen stature. I lacked the fatherly role model every “Queen in Training” deserves as a child. As a result, I became very rigid and cold. Against all odds I continued to move forward in my life, stumbling every step of the way! About a year ago I began to look deep within myself and through this journey I realized I deserved so much better in life. I had lost sight of the Queen that resides within all of US! I started to tap into a power beyond my understanding. Eventually I spoke to other Queens who also experienced similar trials an tribulations. It dawned on me that each one of them was looking to fill a void with people, places and situations just like me. So I began to ponder on how I could use my experience, strength and hope to help every women tap into her inner Queen.  I ran across a beautiful Queen by the name of Kellie Brew and the magic began. My vision is for Queens to see themselves on all sorts of apparel because main stream media has distorted our story an exploited our mind, body and soul. It is my true desire to liberate my fellow Queen through healing, love, unity and knowledge of self.

Dynasty-Who is your target market? “

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “Women society has cast to the side ages 18-30.”

Dynasty- “Where/What do you look to for inspiration for your designs? “

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “I typically look within myself and identify with my fellow sisters pain. That pain may lie in not knowing how to embrace her sexuality, ashamed of her body, rape, incest, molestation, the inability to define herself for herself or just simply climbing outside of the box society let alone men have placed us in.”

Dynasty- “Were you met with any challenges when opening your business/ Any adversity/How did you overcome? ”

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “HELL YES! I only had a $100 to start lol! Having a consistent flow of funds is the only adversity I’ve faced. Everything else comes with the territory. We live in a popcorn society so I already understood “One day they love you and the next they hate you!” My focus has always been how to keep funds flowing so that I could remain afloat, provide new content, and remain relevant. How did I overcome? I haven’t overcame it but I never stopped either! I just keep praying, meditating and believing in myself when no one else does!!!”

Dynasty- “How would you describe your brand’s sense of style? “

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “Urban, Afro Centric, Pop, Glam.”

Dynasty- “What sets you apart from other clothing designers? ”

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “I’m transparent!!!!! My life speaks through my apparel! I let me customers in on a deep personal level! I let them see me at my worse and I never apologize for being HUEMAN! We develop relationships here at “Respect the Queen” I’m not focused on the sale! That will come! My focus is how can I help change this person’s life for the better if even just for that moment!”

Dynasty- “What’s the one thing that you want people to know and/or remember about your company?”

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “No matter what’s happen in your life that doesn’t give you an excuse not to live in your purpose. Four years ago I was facing 20 years in prison and today I own three successful companies. Take a risk and bet on yourself! You’ll NEVER lose because with every life circumstance there is a lesson to be learned.”

Dynasty- “Where can people find  you? (Social Media, Website, Blogs, etc)

Terra J (Respect The Queen): “We’re launching a new site on 1/15/16″

I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with this melanated queen. She truly walks in her truth. I even reached out to her with some personal business questions of my own, and she did not once hesitate to offer a helping hand. That’s what it’s all about. Not just supporting black businesses, and purchasing from black businesses, but supporting one another period. Having togetherness, sisterly and brotherly bonds, because if one of us wins, then all of us do.
Be sure to check out Respect The Queen, and support the movement.
