Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion Week is back again, and as its team gets ready for the approaching shows, it makes time to recognize the fashion trailblazers from Louisiana. This year, OBRFW is proud to present Chenese Lewis, a noted plus-size model and native to Baton Rouge, with the annual OBRFW Fashion Icon Award.
When asked what it takes to be a recipient of this award, Brandon Campbell, founder, CEO and executive producer of OBRFW and Little Rock Fashion Week states, “A person who has made an impact on the state of Louisiana in both a local and national level; someone who is a visionary, a go-getter, and a pioneer in their own way.”
Last year, at the inaugural OBRFW, Lewis hosted the BIG Night fashion show. Lewis is excited to be working with OBRFW, again. She is a veteran in the the industry. Lewis was the first winner of Miss Plus America in 2003, has featured in movies, is a constant philanthropist for the outreach of positive self-image and self-love, a host of her own podcast, and much more.
When asked for advice about trying to break into the entertainment business she states, “Research the industry, learn the requirements or skills needed for success, and invest in your career so that your marketing material is industry standard, so you can be competitive.”
It is her research and perseverance that has gotten her this award. Lewis explains, “This year I am honored to come back as the recipient of the 2015 Fashion Icon. It is always a pleasure to be celebrated for your accomplishments, however for it to come from your hometown makes it even more special.”
“Chenese has always been a pleasure to work with; she has a positive attitude and will help anyone who needs it. I am just happy to see Chenese being recognized for the tremendous work she’s done,” said Campbell.
Lewis understands that the fashion industry is still growing around the country, but is enthralled that her hometown finally has a way to stage their talents.
“The city is full of up and coming models, designers, hairstylists, make-up artists, etcetera, looking for a chance to showcase their skills. There are very few opportunities in Baton Rouge in fashion to get professional experience, that’s why OBRFW is so important to the community; It gives local talent a platform that is needed.”
Lewis will be accept the OBRFW 2015 Fashion Icon Award at the exclusive BIG Night on Feb. 28th at Capitol Park Museum, 660 North 4th St. in Baton Rouge, La.
